Join award-winning wildlife photographers David Gibbon – founder of Wild Lens Nature Tours Ltd. – and Rémi Vacher on this incredible expedition to photograph Sri Lanka’s stunning Leopards, Elephants and other endemic wildlife.
This expedition takes you deep into two prime wildlife sanctuaries: Kumana and Wilpattu National Parks.
Our main photographic focus is the majestic Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya), the island’s apex predator. Unlike their mainland Asian counterparts, this subspecies has evolved into a larger, more prominent carnivore that rarely needs to drag kills into trees. This gives us a unique advantage for photography as we specifically target large males and mothers with cubs, utilising two exclusive low-to-the-ground jeeps to ensure your portfolio captures their power from the most intimate perspective possible.
Beyond the big cat, you will seek out the critically endangered Sri Lankan Sloth Bear (with as few as 500 left in the wild), Elephants (Tuskers), Jackals, and large herds of Spotted and Sambar Deer. The tour also offers exceptional birding, with chances to photograph the Malabar Pied Hornbill, Serpent Eagle and various rare owls.

Your Accommodation
You are guaranteed your own single room (or a double room if a couple) throughout this tour with no single supplements. The two hotels, the Kumana Hotel and Wilpattu Hotel, provide basic but clean facilities, and all rooms are en-suite with a private shower and washroom attached. All hotel meals are included in the tour. The cuisine is local, featuring delicious Sri Lankan rice and curry, local fruits and noodles. Most diets can be catered for, including Gluten-free, Vegetarian and Vegan options.

David is the founder and director of Wild Lens Nature Tours Ltd., which specialises in Arctic photography tours. He has experience guiding expeditions in challenging environments, including Ellesmere Island and remote areas of Greenland. An acclaimed photographer, he has been awarded twice in the prestigious Nature Photographer of the Year and in Travel Photographer of the Year.
For this trip, David has teamed up with Rémi Vacher, a Dubai-based wildlife photographer whose work has been awarded internationally and published in leading magazines. He is a self-taught explorer who has travelled to over 85 countries, combining artistic storytelling with a strong commitment to conservation. Rémi is dedicated to mentoring and guiding aspiring photographers through the full creative journey, from capture to editing, printing, and building a social media presence.
