David Wins International Photography Award

Tour leader and award-winning photographer David Gibbon sits in a bright, snowy landscape under a clear blue sky. Wearing a white beanie, black gloves, and a thick dark winter jacket, his face is notably red from the cold, with visible frost clinging to his face and clothing.

In March 2023, Wild Lens Nature Tours founder David Gibbon embarked on his second expedition to Ellesmere Island in pursuit of the elusive Arctic wolf. As the closest landmass to the North Pole, Ellesmere stands as one of the most remote, inhospitable and extreme environments on Earth.

During the expedition, David not only encountered an Arctic wolf but also captured a striking frame of a muskox herd in full charge. This powerful image earned him the Runner-Up title in the highly competitive Black and White category at the globally prestigious Nature Photographer of the Year awards – a competition that saw immense global scale, drawing over 20,000 entries representing 93 countries.
